Crinoline Lady with Basket of Posies!


This little miss is sure to delight you! You don't have to make her in one color. This is a good way to use up your pretty scraps of thread. Make her bonnet, basket and flowers in different colors for an eye-popping piece.

Crinoline Lady with Basket

Materials: Size 10 thread in color of choice, 1 ball

#7 steel hook

SKIRT –

1ST ROW: Ch 15, 1 dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each of next 11 sts of chain.

2ND ROW: Ch 4, turn, 2 tr (thread twice around hook for a tr) in first dc of last row, ch 2, 3 more tr in same st as last tr, * ch 3, skip next dc, 1 tr in next dc; repeat from * across, end with ch 3, skip next dc, a shell of (3 tr, ch 2 and 3 tr) in top st of turning chain of last row (there are 6 chain loops between shells).

3RD ROW: Turn, work a shell in first shell «as fol­lows: a sl st in 3 tr, a sl st in (ch 2) loop, ch 4, (2 tr, ch 2 and 3 tr) all in same chain loop as last sl st (ch 5 and 1 tr) in each chain loop, ch 5, a shell of (3 tr, ch 2 and 3 tr) in (ch 2) loop of end shell. Repeat last row twice more.

6TH ROW: Turn, a shell in first shell, (ch 5 and 1 tr) in 4 chain loops, ch 5, a shell in next chain loop, (ch 5 and 1 tr) in 4 chain loops, ch 5, (always work­ing shells in chain loop of shells below) work a she 11 in end shell.

7TH ROW: Turn, a shell in first shell, ch 2, 3 more tr in same shell below, (ch 4 and 1 tr) in 5 chain loops, a shell in shell, ch 2, 3 more tr in same shell below, 1 tr In next chain loop, (ch 4 and 1 tr) in 4 chain loops, ch 4,

(3 tr, ch 1, 3 tr, ch 2 and 3 tr), all in end shell.

8TH RoW: Turn, a shell in first (ch 2)loop, ch 5, a shell in next (ch 2) loop, * 1 tr in next chain loop, (ch 4 and 1 tr) in 4 chain loops, a shell in (ch 2) loop, ch 5, a shell in next (ch 2) loop; repeat from * once.

9TH.ROW: Turn, a shell in first shell, ch 3, 3 tr in center st of next (ch 5) loop, ch 3, a shell in next shell, * 1 tr in next chain loop, (ch 4 and 1 tr) in 3 chain loops, a shell in next shell, ch 3, 3 tr in center st of chain loop, ch 3, a shell in next shell; repeat from * once.

10TH ROW Turn, a shell in first shell.ch 4, ship (ch 3) loop, 2 tr in each of 3 tr, ch 4, a shell in shell, * 1 tr in next chain loop, (ch 4 and 1 tr)in 2 chain loops, a shell in shell, ch 4, skip (ch 3) loop, 2 tr in 3 tr, ch 4, a shell in shell, repeat from * once.

11TH ROW: Turn, a shell in first shell, ch 6, skip next chain loop, (2 tr in next tr, 1 tr in next tr) 3 times, ch 6, a shell in shell, * 1 tr In next chain loop, ch 4, 1 tr in next chain loop, a shell in shell, ch 6, skip next chain loop, (2 tr In next tr, 1 tr In next tr) 3 times, ch 6, a shell in shell; repeat from * once.

ARMs AND BODICE –

1ST ROW: Ch 6, work 8 tr in 8th st from hook.

2ND ROW: ch 4, turn, skip first tr, 1 tr in each of next 7 tr, 1 tr in top st of turning chain of last row.

3RD ROW: Ch 4, turn, skip first tr of last row, work a 4 Joined tr stitch over next 4 tr as follows: (thread twice around hook, draw up a loop in next st, thread over and through 2 loops, over and through 2 loops) 4 times, thread over, draw through all 5 loops on hook, a 4 joined tr over next 4 sts.

4TH ROW: Ch 4, turn, 3 tr in first st, 4 tr in next st.

5TH ROW: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in each of the 7 tr of last row, 2 tr in top st of turning chain.

6TH ROW: Ch 4, turn, skip first tr, 1 tr in each of next 9 sts. Repeat last row twice.

9TH ROW: Ch 1, turn. 1 sc in first-3 sts, thread over hook, draw up a loop in next st, thread over and through all 3 loops on hook (this forms a half dc), a half dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in next 4 sts.

10TH ROW: Ch 6, turn, skip first st, 1 tr in next st, * ch 2, skip next st, 1 tr in next st; repeat from * across row,

11TH ROW: Ch 4, turn, * 2 tr in next '(ch 2) space, 1 tr in next tr; repeat from * across row, end with 2 tr in turning chain space, 1 tr in 3rd st of same turning chain.

12TH ROW: Ch 4, turn, skip first tr, work a 2 Joined tr over next 2 tr as follows: (thread twice around hook, draw up a loop in next st, thread over and through 2 loops, over and through 2 loops) twice, thread over and draw through all 3 loops on hook, 1 tr in all but the end 2 tr, a 2 joined tr over next 2 tr.

13TH ROW: Ch 8, turn, work a 3 joined tr over the first 3 sts of last row as follows: (thread twice around hook, draw up a loop in next st, thread, over and through 2 loops, over and through 2 loops) 3 times, thread over, draw through all 4 loops on hook, 1 tr in next 6 tr, a 3 joined tr over next 3 sts, ch 6, work 1 tr along end st of the 3 joined tr just made, ch 2, 1 tr in top st of turning chain of next row, ch 2, 1 tr along same turning chain below, ch 2, 1 tr in top of end tr of next row, ch 2, 1 tr along same end tr below, ch 2, 1 tr in end space of next row.

14TH ROW: Ch 0, turn, skip first tr, 1 tr in next tr, (ch 2 and 1 tr) in next 4 tr, ch 6, 1 sc in next (ch 6) loop, ch 2, 1 tr in next 3 joined tr; (ch 2, skip next st, I tr in next st) 3 times, ch 2, 1 tr in next st, ch 2, 1 tr in turning chain loop, ch 8, 1 sc in 5th st of same turning chain.

15TH ROW: Ch 3, turn, 8 dc in next (ch 6) loop (this 6 dc group will be used later on to attach hat) ch 3, 2 sc in same chain loop as dc, 3 sc in each of next 7 spaces; break off.

Follow directions for first 9 rows of arm to make other arm; break off.

Arrange this arm in place (as shown on Detail) having first 4 sts of last row in back of other arm and remaining sts along end spaces of 13th row of bodice; Using a darning needle and the crochet cotton sew arm in place.

HAT –

1ST ROW: ch 23, 1 dc in 8th st from hook, (ch 2, skip 2 sts, 1 dc in next) 4 times, ch 2, skip 2 sts, 1 sc in end st.

2ND ROW: Ch 4, turn, * 2 tr In next (ch 2) space, 1 tr in next dc; repeat from *across, end with 3 tr in turning chain space.

3RD ROW; Ch 7, turn, a long st (thread 4 times around honk for long st) In first tr, 2 long sts in each of next 4 sts, 2 dtr (thread 3 times around hook for a dtr) in each of 5 sts, 1 tr in each remaining 9 sts.

4TH ROW; Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in each of first 14 sts, 1 dtr in each of next 10 sts, 2 long sts in next 5 sta.

5TH ROW: Ch 7, turn, a long st in first long st, 2 long sts in next st, a long st in next 4 sts, 1 dtr in next 10 sts, 1 tr in each remaining sts.

8TH ROW: Ch 6, turn, skip first 3 sts, 1 dtr in next at, (ch 4, skip 2 sts, 1 dtr in next st) 3 times, * ch 4, skip 2 sts, a long st in next st; repeat from * across row, break off.

BACK SECTION –

7TH ROW: Turn, work­ing along foundation chain, Join thread with an sc along end sc of first row, (ch 15, 1 sc over same sc as last sc) twice, ch 4, 3 tr in first space, 3 tr in each of next 5 spaces, 4 tr in 3rd st of same turning chain space below,

8TH ROW: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in each tr, 2 tr in top st of end chain.

9TH ROW: Same as last row; break off.

JOINING OF PIECES: Arrange skirt, arms and bodice and hat as shown on Details of Right Hand section; uslng a darning needle and the crochet cotton sew pieces secure­ly together.

FLOWER BASKET

1ST ROW: Ch 12, 1 tr in 5th st from hook,

2 tr in each of next 7 sts.

2ND ROW: Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in first tr of last row, * 1 tr in next tr, 2 tr in next tr; repeat from * across row, end with 1 tr in top st of turning chain below.

3RD ROW: Ch 4, turn, skip first tr; 1 tr in 2 tr, * 2 tr in next tr, 1 tr in next 2 tr; re­peat from * across row, end with 2 tr in top st of turning chain below.

4TH ROW: Ch 4, turn, skip first tr, 1 tr in each of remaining tr, 1 tr in top st of turn­ing chain below.

5TH HOW: Ch 10, turn, skip first tr, 1 dtr in next tr, * ch 2, skip next tr, 1 dtr in next tr; repeat from; * across row, end with ch 2. skip next tr, 1 dtr in top st of turning chain below.

6TH ROW: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in each space, 2 sc in turning chain space, 1 sc in 3rd st 01 same turning chain; break off.

FIRST FLOWED - 1ST ROUND: Ch 5, join with a sl st into a ring, ch 8, 1 dc into ring, * ch 5, 1 dc into ring; repeat from * 3 times, ch 5, a sl st in 3rd st of first ch 8 of round, (there are 6 chain ioops in round).

2ND ROUND: Ch 1, work ( 1 sc, ch 3, 5 tr, ch 3 and 1 sc) all in each chain loop of last round, a sl st in first sc of round; break off. Make 3 flowers.

HANDLE: Ch 30, a sl st In 2nd st from hook, taking sts over chain work 36 dc across chain, a sl st in end st; break off. Arrange flowers, handle and basket as shown on Detail; with darning needle and crochet cotton tack pieces together.
